This is fast becoming a viral video on the internet. It’s almost everyone from the Muppets singing Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, which we all know is a pretty epic song. Everyone knows this and it’s been done, sang and spoofed everywhere. Two decades after it was first released, the song is still popular and very catchy!

The Muppets take on this adds a new dimension. Watch out for the drummer who really rocked it singing, “Mama….”

If you are one in the millions who have already seen this, I’m sure it doesn’t hurt to watch the video again. If you’re watching this one for the first time, then I know you would enjoy this and will be sharing this one to friends afterwards.

Download New Christmas Song “Christmas Recipe” For Free

Posted by Lira | Music News | Friday 27 November 2009 19:45

Screen shot 2009-11-28 at 3.32.54 AMI’ve just been wondering about the lack of newly released Christmas songs the other day and here comes this whimsical music treat from songwriter Larry Whitler who is releasing the song, “Christmas Recipe”. You can listen to this song or access the free download link from his website.

The song speaks of a grandmother who has her recipe tucked away in the pages of the Bible, which was not to be found until much, much later. The song is a great reminder of what important things we have to uphold this holiday season.

The music will also be released in Larry Whitler’s CD, The Greater Good.

Here is the complete press release for this:

Ocala, FL (PRWEB) November 26, 2009 -– “A pinch of cinnamon, a dash of peppermint, a spoonful of pumpkin spice” … familiar scents that warm our hearts with memories of special family times shared during the Christmas season. When the hustle and bustle of the day is so overwhelming, we need to just stop and reflect on the things most important to us. One of these things is the wisdom learned from others.

American Folk Singer/Songwriter Larry Whitler
Larry’s song, “Christmas Recipe,” helps the listener do just that by telling the story of an old Christmas recipe that had gone undiscovered for many years hidden in the pages of the Bible. The recipe, left by “Grandma,” was placed in the book of Luke, where the Christmas story was originally recorded. It was not discovered until a bookshelf, where the Bible sat for many years, was moved to make room for a Christmas Tree. Upon falling off the bookshelf the Bible opens to the book of Luke, Chapter Two, and the old recipe is finally found. The “Christmas Recipe” reveals the wisdom “Grandma” had intended to impart upon her grandson so many years earlier.
When the hustle and bustle of the day is so overwhelming, we need to just stop and reflect on the things most important to us. Get mesmerized in the true reason for the season.
To download “Christmas Recipe” for free, go to www.larrywhitler.com. “Christmas Recipe” will also be found on Larry’s soon-to-be released CD titled “The Greater Good.”

Posted by karenb | Lyrics, Movie Soundtracks | Friday 27 November 2009 16:31

How can you not be carried away in your seats and let your emotions steal you from reality when you hear the song Hearing Damage playing on the movie, New Moon. It’s tune truly sets the mood for the movie inviting the audience more. hmmm… with this song choice, New Moon can never go wrong.

yorke_thom

Thomas Edward “Thom” Yorke (born 7 October 1968), artist of Hearing Damage is an English musician who is the lead singer and principal songwriter of the alternative rock group Radiohead. He mainly plays guitar and piano, but he has also played drums and bass guitar (notably during the Kid A and AmnesiacThe Eraser. sessions). Truly, New Moon’s list of soundtracks will let you enjoy the movie more as much as Bella enjoyed the company of Jacob and Edward’s great love for her. Here’s a video link of the song and a lyrics for you to join in the singing. Enjoy!

Hearing Damage by Thom Yorke

A tear in my brain
Allows the voices in
They wanna push you off the path
With their frequency wires

And you can do no wrong
In my eyes
In my eyes
You can do no wrong
In my eyes
In my eyes

A drunken salesman
Your hearing damage
Your mind is restless
They say you?re getting better
But you don?t feel any better

Your speakers are blowing
Your ears are wrecking
Your hearing damage
You wish you felt better
You wish you felt better

You can do no wrong
In my eyes
In my eyes
You can do no wrong
In my eyes
In my eyes
In my

In my eyes
In my eyes
In my eyes

Meet Me On The Equinox by Death Cab For Cutie

Posted by karenb | Lyrics, Movie Soundtracks | Wednesday 25 November 2009 16:18

Who wouldn’t miss New Moon’s top of the line OST, Meet Me On The Equinox.  The song speaks of a guy’s intimate and firm feelings towards the apple of his eyes. Indeed, it speaks so much of the whole movie. Meet Me On The Equinox is New Moon in a song. It can relate to the very essence of the movie involved around the love of Jacob for Bella. pure. sacrifice. self-giving. The song as played on the movie made the scene more appealing and emotional. With its everything ends chorus DCFC surely joins the OST for the movie.

Meet Me On The Equinox is sung by Death Cab for Cutie. They are a Grammy-nominated American indie rock band, formed in Bellingham, Washington in 1997. The band consists of Benjamin Gibbard (vocals, guitar), Chris Walla (guitar, production), Nick Harmer (bass) and Jason McGerr (drums). Gibbard took the band name from the title of the song written by Neil Innes and Vivian Stanshall. Gibbard is also the man behind The Postal Service. He is also Zooey Deschanel’s (Summer Finn of 500 Days of Summer) husband. Although some of the fans’ reviews say that DCFC have better songs than Meet Me On The Equinox, still this song is the most fitting for the movie especially its dramatic tune and soothing melody with a touch of melancholy on its tempo. Nevertheless, the song is not that bad especially when you listen to it on the movie. The lyrics of the song follows. Listen and feel big bear (or should  I say wolf) hugs while humming to its tune.

Meet Me On The Equinox by Death Cab For Cutie

Meet me on the Equinox
Meet me half way
When the sun is perched at it’s highest peek
In the middle of the day

Let me give my love to you
Let me take your hand
As we walk in the dimming light
Or darling understand

That everything, everything ends
That everything, everything ends

Meet me on your best behavior
Meet me at your worst
For there will be no stone unturned
Or bubble left to burst

Let me lay beside you, Darling
Let me be your man
And let our bodies intertwine
But always understand

That everything, everything ends
That everything, everything ends
That everything, everything, everything ends

A window
An opened tomb
The sun crawls
Across your bedroom
A halo
A waiting room
Your last breaths
Moving through you

As everything, everything ends
As everything, everything ends
As everything, everything, everything
Everything, everything, everything ends

Meet me on the Equinox
Meet me half way
When the sun is perched at it’s highest peek
In the middle of the day

Let me give my love to you
Let me take your hand
As we walk in the dimming light
Or darling understand

That everything, everything ends

New Moon Soundtracks

New Moon

New Moon

The much-awaited sequel of the year has come and finally, the wait is over. With a new director (Chris Weitz) and a new hot-sizzling bod of one of the main characters, Jacob (Taylor Lautner); New Moon also has released its list of soundtracks. In contrary to some of the speculations, too bad Robert Pattinson is not singing on the compilation. Instead, a taste of indie music is what the disc is all about. The compilation consists of different artists with amazing sets of songs. Stephenie Meyer, the Twilight Saga series author has originally made a list of songs she opted to best suit the story while while writing the book and some of her choices made it on the disc. Some of the treats in store for the disc are Death Cab For Cutie,  Thom Yorke, Grizzly Bear, and a lot more. Their songs represent appropriately the different scenes it has been played on the film. Surely, this is one soundtrack of the year! Go take that fall. Jump on that cliff err… hop unto your favorite record bars and outlets to enjoy the list.

New Moon Soundtracks:

1.DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE — MEET ME ON THE EQUINOX
2.BAND OF SKULLS — FRIENDS
3.THOM YORKE — HEARING DAMAGE
4.LYKKE LI — POSSIBILITY
5.THE KILLERS — A WHITE DEMON LOVE SONG
6.ANYA MARINA — SATELLITE HEART
7.MUSE — I BELONG TO YOU (NEW MOON)
8.BON IVER & ST. VINCENT — ROSYLN
9.BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB — DONE ALL WRONG
10.HURRICANE BELLS — MONSTERS
11.SEA WOLF — THE VIOLET HOUR
12.OK GO — SHOOTING THE MOON
13.GRIZZLY BEAR — SLOW LIFE
14.EDITORS — NO SOUND BUT THE WIND
15.ALEXANDRE DESPLAT — NEW MOON (THE MEADOW)

The soundtracks of the movie were poignantly placed at each scene which actually makes the movie more palatable for its audience.  It adds more sense and feeling to the lines of the characters. Interestingly, New Moon’s soundtracks are not a mixed of emo or punk music instead, it features indie music which breaks away from the current trend of music. This way, the movie has another feel of tone because of its music; it’s what the audience will love: different and catchy instead of the usual romantic and gothic.

Listen to Stephanie Germanotta, Before She Went Gaga

Posted by Lira | Pop | Monday 23 November 2009 09:05

Obviously, what we see of Lady Gaga is a stunt. Her outrageous costumes are one thing, her music is another thing. But all these are part of a clever marketing package. It work for her, didn’t it? She’s currently the IT girl in music. I’ve always wondered though if there was ever a time Lady Gaga was normal.

This video apparently shows that she was.

This is from a time when a certain Stefani Germanotta was seen performing her eclectic songs at the NYU talent show, where she went to win third place. This video proves that she can sing and actually has a captivating voice. This was an original piece which was written by her.

Watch the video:

Which do you prefer…a captivating Stephanie Germanotta or a captivating Lady Gaga?

Us by Regina Spektor

Posted by karenb | Lyrics, Movie Soundtracks | Sunday 22 November 2009 15:36
Regina Spektor

Regina Spektor

Another hit in the list of soundtracks for the movie, 500 Days of Summer is “Us”  by Regina Spektor. Regina was born in Moscow, USSR to a musical Russian Jewish family. Her lyrics are equally eclectic, often taking the form of abstract narratives or first-person character studies, similar to short stories or vignettes put to song. Spektor usually sings in English, though she sometimes includes a few words or verses of Latin, Russian, French, and other languages in her songs. Since 2005, Spektor’s music has been used in various television programs and commercials. Her song Us is the song being played at the start of the film, 500 Days of Summer which is just fitting for the movie because of its playful mood. The song kicked off the lighthearted spirit of the whole film thus, inviting in the audience to set their mood in a cheery and light mode.

The song Us is distinct from other Regina Spektor songs since it incorporates a string quartet on it instead of her usual piano and vocals. Us has a playful intro with an eclectic flavor on it. Nevertheless, it sounds hip and cool. The song’s lyrics talks about how people will try to bring two people loving each other down; how two people could be such inspiration and a source of gossip; how love can make one so strong despite the stereotypes and how it makes one weak feeling down. The lyrics of the song follows.

Us by Regina Spektor

They made a statue of us

And it put it on a mountain top

Now tourists come and stare at us

Blow bubbles with their gum

Take photographs

for fun, for fun

They’ll name a city after us

And later say it’s all our fault

Then they’ll give us a talking to

Then they’ll give us a talking to

Because they’ve got years of experience

We’re living in a den of thieves

Rummaging for answers in the pages

We’re living in a den of thieves

And it’s contagious

And it’s contagious

And it’s contagious

And it’s contagious

We wear our scarves just like a noose

But not ’cause we want eternal

sleep

And though our parts are slightly used

New ones are slave labor you can keep

We’re living in a den of thieves

Rummaging for answers in the pages

We’re living in a den of thieves

And it’s contagious

And it’s contagious

And it’s contagious

And it’s contagious

They made a statue of us

They made a statue of us

The tourists come and stare at us

The sculptor’s mama sends regards

They made a statue of us

They made a statue of us

Our noses have begun to rust

We’re living in a den of thieves

Rummaging for answers in the pages

Were living in a den of thieves

And it’s contagious

And it’s contagious

And it’s contagious

And it’s contagious

And it’s contagious

And it’s contagious

And it’s contagious

And it’s contagious

Sing in with Regina Spektor’s song Us and feel the light mood of a summer day and reminisce on your good ol’ memories with loved ones. *winks*

There Is A Light That Never Goes Out – The Smiths

Posted by karenb | Artist, Movie Soundtracks | Friday 20 November 2009 17:56
The Smiths

The Smiths

A four-man band. Hit-breaking singles. Hand in Glove. Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now. Sheila take a bow. Shoplifters of the World. Jeane. Top-breaking records in UK charts. Hit makers.  Johnny Marr. Morrissey. Andy Rourke. Mike Joyce. Those are just some of the keywords and key phrases that make up the “The Smiths“. Oh yes, their songs are back on track especially with its being a part of the offbeat musically-inclined film by Marc Webb – 500 Days of Summer.

“Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want” and “There Is a Light that Never Goes Out” are two of the songs featured on Webb’s movie starred by Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The latter song is the one being played on Tom’s (Levitt) I-pod on the elevator scene. Here’s a lyrics of the song:

“There Is a Light that Never Goes Out”

by The Smiths

Take me out tonight
Where there’s music and there’s people
And they’re young and alive
Driving in your car
I never never want to go home
Because I haven’t got one
Anymore

Take me out tonight
Because I want to see people and I
Want to see life
Driving in your car
Oh, please don’t drop me home
Because it’s not my home, it’s their
Home, and I’m welcome no more

And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure – the privilege is mine

Take me out tonight
Take me anywhere, I don’t care
I don’t care, I don’t care
And in the darkened underpass
I thought Oh God, my chance has come at last
(But then a strange fear gripped me and I
Just couldn’t ask)

Take me out tonight
Oh, take me anywhere, I don’t care
I don’t care, I don’t care
Driving in your car
I never never want to go home
Because I haven’t got one, da …
Oh, I haven’t got one

And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure – the privilege is mine

Oh, There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out

The Smiths was formed in England when Marr decided to create a band together with Morrissey and later formed a duo. Shortly after, the duo chose the name “The Smiths” as a sign of uniqueness to oppose all the other bands who got complex names in order to emphasize their music. Throughout the years, this four-man band was able to release 12 albums with much of its singles making it to the topmost spots of the UK Charts. With this brief history, The Smiths is an excellent choice as part of the musical scoring of the film, 500 Days of Summer. Sing in to your favorite Smiths song and say “I love The Smiths” after. *winks*
