There Is A Light That Never Goes Out – The Smiths

The Smiths
A four-man band. Hit-breaking singles. Hand in Glove. Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now. Sheila take a bow. Shoplifters of the World. Jeane. Top-breaking records in UK charts. Hit makers. Johnny Marr. Morrissey. Andy Rourke. Mike Joyce. Those are just some of the keywords and key phrases that make up the “The Smiths“. Oh yes, their songs are back on track especially with its being a part of the offbeat musically-inclined film by Marc Webb – 500 Days of Summer.
“Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want” and “There Is a Light that Never Goes Out” are two of the songs featured on Webb’s movie starred by Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The latter song is the one being played on Tom’s (Levitt) I-pod on the elevator scene. Here’s a lyrics of the song:
“There Is a Light that Never Goes Out”
by The Smiths
Take me out tonight
Where there’s music and there’s people
And they’re young and alive
Driving in your car
I never never want to go home
Because I haven’t got one
Anymore
Take me out tonight
Because I want to see people and I
Want to see life
Driving in your car
Oh, please don’t drop me home
Because it’s not my home, it’s their
Home, and I’m welcome no more
And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure – the privilege is mine
Take me out tonight
Take me anywhere, I don’t care
I don’t care, I don’t care
And in the darkened underpass
I thought Oh God, my chance has come at last
(But then a strange fear gripped me and I
Just couldn’t ask)
Take me out tonight
Oh, take me anywhere, I don’t care
I don’t care, I don’t care
Driving in your car
I never never want to go home
Because I haven’t got one, da …
Oh, I haven’t got one
And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure – the privilege is mine
Oh, There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
The Smiths was formed in England when Marr decided to create a band together with Morrissey and later formed a duo. Shortly after, the duo chose the name “The Smiths” as a sign of uniqueness to oppose all the other bands who got complex names in order to emphasize their music. Throughout the years, this four-man band was able to release 12 albums with much of its singles making it to the topmost spots of the UK Charts. With this brief history, The Smiths is an excellent choice as part of the musical scoring of the film, 500 Days of Summer. Sing in to your favorite Smiths song and say “I love The Smiths” after. *winks*
