Trod Nossel Celebrates 44 Years In Business

Posted by Natazha | Artist, Music News | Tuesday 9 March 2010 04:54

Before circa 1965-66, After 2010Since 1966, Trod Nossel Productions and Recording Studios, cited by the media as “one of the longest running recording studios of it’s kind in existence,” has been an icon in the music industry since founded by the late, oral surgeon turned music mogul, Thomas ‘Doc’ Cavalier. From 1962-1966, it was Syncron Sound Studios (hence the rare, sought-after Syncron microphones, AU7a and S10) when Doc purchased it before renaming it Trod Nossel 1966.

The studio’s comfortable, vintage vibe houses a collection of memorabilia on its walls; an original letter and release of “No Good To Cry,” by The Wildweeds, from Phil Chess (Chess Records/Cadet label), Andrew Loog Oldham (who describes “life on the Trod Nossel Studios lot” as “an American movie” – Chapter 6 in a Sirius Radio commentary) book cover posters, “Stoned,” and “2Stoned,” early Rolling Stones poster, Motley Crue platinum record for Cub Koda cover “Smokin’ In The Boys Room,” Grammy nominations for Pinetop Perkins, Howlin’ Wolf, and a plethora of recording clients’ CD projects.

The two studios have an eclectic blend of analog, boutique, vintage and custom gear, and two independent digital state-of-the-art Pro Tools rigs (HD2/HD3). Everything has a story, from the EMT plate reverb to the Yamaha C7 Grand piano; from the control room (formerly the anechoic chamber built in part by Technical Expert, Danny Zellman), to the vintage Neuman U47s, the main sound room (which doubled as a television studio) and everything in between.

There Is A Light That Never Goes Out – The Smiths

Posted by karenb | Artist, Movie Soundtracks | Friday 20 November 2009 17:56
The Smiths

The Smiths

A four-man band. Hit-breaking singles. Hand in Glove. Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now. Sheila take a bow. Shoplifters of the World. Jeane. Top-breaking records in UK charts. Hit makers.  Johnny Marr. Morrissey. Andy Rourke. Mike Joyce. Those are just some of the keywords and key phrases that make up the “The Smiths“. Oh yes, their songs are back on track especially with its being a part of the offbeat musically-inclined film by Marc Webb – 500 Days of Summer.

“Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want” and “There Is a Light that Never Goes Out” are two of the songs featured on Webb’s movie starred by Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The latter song is the one being played on Tom’s (Levitt) I-pod on the elevator scene. Here’s a lyrics of the song:

“There Is a Light that Never Goes Out”

by The Smiths

Take me out tonight
Where there’s music and there’s people
And they’re young and alive
Driving in your car
I never never want to go home
Because I haven’t got one
Anymore

Take me out tonight
Because I want to see people and I
Want to see life
Driving in your car
Oh, please don’t drop me home
Because it’s not my home, it’s their
Home, and I’m welcome no more

And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure – the privilege is mine

Take me out tonight
Take me anywhere, I don’t care
I don’t care, I don’t care
And in the darkened underpass
I thought Oh God, my chance has come at last
(But then a strange fear gripped me and I
Just couldn’t ask)

Take me out tonight
Oh, take me anywhere, I don’t care
I don’t care, I don’t care
Driving in your car
I never never want to go home
Because I haven’t got one, da …
Oh, I haven’t got one

And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure – the privilege is mine

Oh, There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out

The Smiths was formed in England when Marr decided to create a band together with Morrissey and later formed a duo. Shortly after, the duo chose the name “The Smiths” as a sign of uniqueness to oppose all the other bands who got complex names in order to emphasize their music. Throughout the years, this four-man band was able to release 12 albums with much of its singles making it to the topmost spots of the UK Charts. With this brief history, The Smiths is an excellent choice as part of the musical scoring of the film, 500 Days of Summer. Sing in to your favorite Smiths song and say “I love The Smiths” after. *winks*

500 Days Of Summer SOUNDTRACKS

500 Days of Summer Soundtracks

500 Days of Summer Soundtracks

Who would ever think that “500 Days of Summer” is not a love story. Well, it is definitely not a love story. It was just about a simple office guy (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who meets an ordinary girl (Zooey Deschanel) with extraordinary charisma as the narrator said upfront at the start of the film as if forewarning us audience to keep low our expectations towards the movie. Nevertheless, it was very accurate because (oops! spoiler alert) towards the end of the movie, one can understand why.

The movie as directed by Marc Webb -a renowned music video director who has worked with music stars such as Regina Spektor, Green Day, and My Chemical Romance.  Given with that fact, the movie is tuned with pop songs from Regina Spektor, The Smiths, and many more.  The movie’s track listing is composed of cool songs which sets the tone for the whole movie.

Here is the complete list of soundtracks in the movie:

1. A Story of Boy Meets Girl – Mychael Danna and Rob Simonson

2. Us – Regina Spektor

3. There is A Light That Never Goes Out – The Smiths

4. Bad Kids – Black Lips

5. Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want – The Smiths

6. There Goes The Fear – Doves

7. You Make My Dreams – Hall & Oates

8. Sweet Disposition – The Temper Trap

9. Quelqu’un M’a Dit – Carla Bruni

10. Mushaboom – Feist

11. Hero – Regina Spektor

12. Bookends – Simon & Garfunkel

13. Vegabond – Wolfmother

14. She’s Got You High – Mumm-Ra

15. Here Comes Your Man – Meaghan Smith

16. Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want – She & Him

Track No. 3 is the song played on the famous scene of the movie wherein Tom is joined by Summer in the elevator and she overhears the song being played on Tom’s Ipod as she says “I Love The Smiths“. The whole album of the movie is a total package. Kudos to the whole team of the film who successfully put together different artists despite the legal and other challenges it may meet along the way. Go ahead, grab your own disc now and just like Summer, (both the character and the season) you’ll wish it never ends or stops playing.
